Making a Flappy Bird game @RRIS

Posted by on 20/04/2015

This afternoon the Digital Leaders made their own Flappy Bird games with the help of the code.org website.  They worked through the activities and felt confident at the end to have a go themselves.  They were able to change many variables like the icon for the player (Superman, Batman or the Easter Bunny for example), the background for the game (underwater, in a cave or in the night sky) and the type of obstacle to avoid (pipes, plants, chimneys.)  At the end of the afternoon many had earned their Hour of Code certificates and were keen to let others play their game.  Why not click on the picture below and have a go at the game Olly made – you can’t die in it as he didn’t want to make it too difficult!Flappy Bird RRIS

I am glad Skye enjoyed Code Club this week – she can carry on at home if you have access to the internet by visiting the http://www.code.org website.

Skye was enthusiastically telling me about the code club this week and and how exciting it is creating and making decisions. Skye would really love to complete the Hour of Code as she reached level 9 this week and so didn’t get a certificate. Is this something we can do together at home?

This is fantastic to see and amazing what can be done within an hour, great stuff for the Digital Leaders to experience and really happy they get the chance to explore technology in this way. The game is also pretty addictive, Ollie has built me a version with collision detection which makes it much more of a challenge but much more fun, so very proud of him and the RRIS Digital Leaders!
